FAQ
Straight answers.
What exactly does HavenIQ do?
We supervise properties: sensors monitor water flow, leak points, temperature, and device health around the clock, a trained human assesses every abnormal signal in context, and — with your authorization — we coordinate contractor dispatch. Detection, assessment, action.
Is this a security or life-safety service?
No. HavenIQ provides property monitoring, notification, and coordination only. We do not provide security monitoring, life-safety services, or any form of first-responder service. Our focus is property protection: water, temperature, and equipment.
How much does it cost?
$99 per month per property on an annual contract. The founding pilot — 10 properties — is $79 per month, locked in for life. Hardware is pass-through at cost, and contractor work is billed by the contractor with our coordination fee shown as a separate line item.
What hardware do you install?
A flow meter on the water main, wireless leak sensors at high-risk points, a hub, and — where the property warrants it — a shutoff valve. Temperature monitoring uses your existing smart thermostat where you have one. If you already own compatible devices, they may slot into the system.
Does the water shut off automatically?
Where a property has a shutoff valve, it can close automatically at the device level the moment a leak is sensed — that automation belongs to the equipment and works regardless of anything else. HavenIQ's role is the supervision layer on top: detecting anomalies, assessing them with a human, notifying you, and coordinating the response.
What happens when you detect something?
A trained person reviews the signal against your property's context — occupancy, season, history. False positives get absorbed silently. Real problems reach you as a call or message with what we know and what we recommend, and with your authorization, a contractor is dispatched.
Do you serve my area?
We currently serve the Waterloo Region — Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and nearby. If you're close but not sure, ask: jamie@haven-iq.ca.
Can I use HavenIQ alongside a property manager?
Yes, and some owners do. A manager handles operations; we handle continuous failure detection and response. The two don't overlap much in practice.
Will this lower my insurance premium?
Possibly — many insurers offer discounts for water leak detection and automatic shutoff equipment. The discount is typically for having the equipment; check with your broker about what your policy recognizes. We don't promise specific savings.
What's on the roadmap?
Vacant-mode energy optimization — automatically easing heating and cooling while a property is empty — is in development. It is not live yet, and we don't sell it as if it were. Founding pilot properties get new capabilities first as they pass our production gates.
